Welcome to a fresh new year! We had a challenging 2021 but offered a strong series of webinars. The last SEAoT Houston webinar of the year was our November presentation by Stephen Pfund of LERA. He presented “Strategies that Illuminate the Root Causes of Problems on Construction Projects”. Stephen explained a process consisting of 4 main strategies, plus a bonus strategy:

  1. Build your haystack
  2. Organize information to illuminate relationships
  3. Ask “what would I have done?”
  4. Find the root cause
  5. Turn to your network

Stephen included several examples of important concepts, including different analysis results for different support conditions, comparing timelines, and considering if there was even a reasonable path to success in the first place. One project highlighted was the airport at Jeddah, on which the tolerance for the cantilevered steel framing at the canopies was less than potential surveyor error for the size of the structure.

Coming up in our January 2022 webinar, Claire Sexton of Hilti will present Overview of Adhesive and Mechanical Anchors. Please join us!

I want to extend a special thank-you to Daniel Pearson for his help last year with validating the attendance for the meetings last year so I could generate the PDH certificates, and to Ariel Suselo for volunteering as Communications and Social Media chair for 2022. Ariel has started helping with the website and social media posts already and will no doubt become absolutely essential in no time! Thank you Daniel and Ariel! I really appreciate your contributions.

I hope everyone is staying well and looking forward to our offerings for 2022.
