We had a great turnout for our January webinar, with over 50 participants signed in. Claire Sexton presented Hilti’s popular Anchor 101: Anchoring Principles & Design webinar, which provides an overview of adhesive and mechanical anchors.

In our webinar, Claire covered the importance of Evaluation Service Reports (ESRs) published by the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) as well as the basic sections of an ESR. Then she presented the types of loads applied to anchors, failure modes, and influence factors. She also told us about the different types of concrete and masonry anchors–the major categories being cast-in-place, mechanical, and adhesive anchors. For the mechanical and adhesive anchors, the most appropriate anchor will depend on your base material and installation method, plus there may be several options to choose from with different ranges of diameters, different head types, and different requirements for cleaning the hole. Different installation methods and hole cleaning requirements create different safety hazards to consider as well. Claire also touched on anchor design resources and answered questions from the attendees.

Our February webinar will feature Rob Kinchler, PE, of the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), presenting Emerging Trends in Reinforced Concrete. The latest trends include innovative forming systems, sustainability, and many more. The webinar takes place 2/17 from noon-1 pm (central). See our web post for more information.

I hope you’ll join us, learn something new, and ask interesting questions!
