Abstract:
This presentation highlights the rehabilitation of Wharves 4 and 5 at the Port of Houston’s Barbours Cut Terminal to support installation of new 100‑foot‑gage ship‑to‑shore (STS) cranes. The session will cover the strengthening and structural design required to accommodate the new STS cranes, including. The presentation will also discuss the condition assessment and repair of existing wharf elements, focusing on the corrosion evaluation, deterioration mechanisms, and targeted repair strategies. Together, these topics illustrate the multidisciplinary engineering effort necessary to modernize critical waterfront infrastructure while extending its service life.

Bio:
Daniel Pearson, P.E., S.E., is a structural engineering consultant with Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. where he specializes in the investigation, evaluation, and repair of existing structures. His project work experience includes marine facilities, process plant structures, buildings, bridges, and parking garages. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University. He is a licensed professional engineer and structural engineer in several states.
