Design of externally applied FRP for Concrete Strengthening – by Hakim Bouadi, Ph.D, P.E of Walter P Moore. Hakim will be joined by University of Houston Professor Dr. Abdeldjelil “DJ” Belarbi, Ph.D., P.E. who co-chairs ACI Committee 440E on Professional Education related to FRP

This presentation will introduce the basic design concepts for externally bonded FRP repairs and will provide an overview of the requirements of ACI 440 for externally bonded FRP repair applications for flexure, shear and confinement.  The personation also discussing basic material properties and detailing concepts

Hakim is a Principal and Senior Project Manager with more than 20 years of experience in the field of building design and forensic engineering. His expertise includes new design, as well as evaluating, assessing, and designing repairs for distress related to industrial facilities, buildings, slabs and foundations. Hakim also develops work scopes, repair details, repair procedures, and technical specifications for restoration/rehabilitation projects.  Hakim is active in the developed of codes and standards.  He is a member of the ACI Committee 440 on Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP) and chair of the subcommittee 440E on Professional education related to FRP.

Professor Belarbi’s research interests include structural health monitoring, smart sensors, structural performance and durability in natural disasters, constitutive modeling of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete structures.  You can learn more about Dr. Belbari here: http://www.cive.uh.edu/faculty/belarbi
