In March, Texas A&M University students had their spring break, marking the midpoint of the semester. The week after spring break, SEAoT-TAMU was visited by former A&M students Daniel Gonzalez and
Emanuel Salazar from SCA Engineers.

Daniel Gonzalez and Emanuel Salazar stepped through some of their favorite projects, including one with a reinforced concrete foundation over 8’ thick that required a 21-hour concrete pour. One of the highlights of their presentation was the discussion of a highrise project in Houston that was designed using their firm’s thin shell structural system. The thin shell cast-in-place design can be constructed quickly by laborers with only a small amount of training. This system has been used for residential highrises, hotels, and the like, as it easily allows for similarly constructed buildings to be added side-by-side. Daniel and Emanuel were so friendly, and the students had a great time asking them questions!

The student chapter has had a great semester so far. In April, SEAoT-TAMU will hold its last two general
meetings of the spring with presentations from JQ now IMEG, and Paragon Structural Engineering. SEAoT-TAMU is now seeking presenters for the upcoming Fall semester. If you or your company is interested, please email [email protected] for more information!
