Architects want architecturally exposed structural steel on projects to meet their expectations for appearance, budget, quality and structural integrity. The category system implemented in the AISC Code of Standard Practice effectively communicates expectations and should be utilized on any AESS project. Participants in this program will learn how and when to implement the AESS Category Method to effectively communicate the desired appearance for architecturally exposed structural steel in a format that contractors can understand.  This presentation is crucial information that begins to set expectations for all members of the project team, including Owners, the General Contractor, and Engineers.

Presented by Alex Morales, Assoc. AIA.

Alex currently serves as the Structural Steel Specialist – Houston Market for The American Institute of Steel Construction, where he is connecting with AEC professionals to present the latest advancements and innovations in structural steel for viable and efficient design solutions.  Alex is also the Subject Matter Expert for Adaptive Re-Use research at AISC.  Prior to joining AISC, Alex worked for several years with project teams exploring and designing the built environment in both Architecture and Construction firms.

Continuing his collaboration within the industry, Alex is also an active mentor for ACE Houston and serves as committee member of the AIA Houston Building Enclosure Council and the Rice Design Alliance at Rice University.  Alex earned his Bachelor’s in Environmental Design from Texas A&M University.
