April’s meeting features Dean Rutila of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc presenting “Enclosure Engineering: What practicing structural engineers should know about building enclosures.”

Speaker Profile

Dean Rutila, P.E. is a Senior Principal with Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. with over 40 years’ experience designing and investigating building structures and enclosures, with the past 32 years focused on enclosures of all types.  He has led the SGH enclosure practice in Washington, DC and since 2015, the Houston practice.   Noteworthy enclosure projects include the Polk County (FL) courthouse, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Pentagon, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Texas Southern University and Chinese drywall.

Abstract

Enclosure Engineering:  What practicing structural engineers should know about building enclosures.

Mr. Rutila will describe enclosure engineering as practiced by his firm and how this practice interacts with structural engineers and others on project teams.  He will use design and investigation examples to illustrate key points for project structural engineers of record and other structural engineers.
